The Graduate School of English (GSE) grew out of a co-operative program with St. Michael’s College in Vermont, U.S.A. whereby two faculty members from Assumption University taught a large group of Assumption University lecturers in an M.A, program so as to upgrade the qualifications of those faculty members. After a period of consolidation which involved hiring new internationally recognized faculty members, a period of expansion ensued with the development of a Ph.D. in ELT and an M.A. in Professional English Media. In addition GSE has made co-operative agreements with SEAMEO RELC and RETRAC in Vietnam, as well as with universities in Indonesia, China, Vietnam and Japan. In 2007, the Graduate School of English was officially instituted by the University Council and a Dean was appointed to run it. The GSE has currently a faculty of eight members with approximately 30 MA ELT and 20 PHD ELT students.
